This Agreement made the 4th day of April One thousand eight hundred and ninety-six Between The Undersigned One of the Crown Agents for the Colonies of Downing Street London in the County of Middlesex acting for and on behalf of the Government of Hong Kong (hereinafter called "the Government") of the one part and Anne Patteson of the London Hospital Whitechapel in the County of Middlesex of the other part
Whereby it is agreed by and between the parties hereto as follows:
The said Anne Patteson hereinafter called "the person engaged" is hereby selected for appointment as a Nurse in the Government Civil Hospital of Hong Kong upon the following terms and conditions.
The person engaged shall as soon as required proceed to Hong Kong and on her arrival there will be placed under the orders of the Superintendent of the Hospital and her duties shall include such general duties of Nurse as are usual in a British Hospital. The term of engagement shall be for Five years but the Government shall have power at any time to terminate it upon giving to the person engaged three month's notice in writing or paying her a sum equal to three months salary in lieu of such notice and providing her with a free passage home.
